I read about a man who I would really like to meet. His name is Frank Hanna, he is a businessman, a philanthropist and an author. His book has an odd title: What’s Your Money Mean? It is a book that talks about the good that you can do with money and the importance of money as way of doing good in the world. In addition to his successes as a businessman, Frank Hanna is also a prominent philanthropist who is active in charity, church and community work.

Norberto Diaz Song#3 “Guantanamera”

Guantanamera

The Children from Cuba/ Guantanamera – This song is dedicated to the memory of my father who was very proud to have all his children born in America. Guantanamera is an old traditional Cuban song that I composed new English and Spanish lyrics for, to express my feelings as a Cuban-American. The song helps me always remember my wonderful Latin roots and how truly lucky we all are to live in this great nation, the USA.

Let’s Sing Bilingual

Although  I was born in Newark, New Jersey, my family came from Cuba and English was always my second language as a youngster. I wrote the lyrics and used a traditional Public Domain melody for this song. I hope you enjoy singing it in my two favorite languages (Spanish and English).

An original song by Norberto Diaz

Stay in School

Stay in School is a song I wrote and dedicate to the memory of Mr. Homer Mensch, my Double Bass Music Teacher at The Julliard School of Performing Arts in New York City.
“Mr. Mensch ,  never has a day gone by that I do not remember you and the love for teaching and learning that you instilled in my soul. Thanks for everything”

Verse              Learning is the only way that you can reach for a star
Learning is the only way that you will find out who you are

Don’t listen to those voices that tell you school is no good for you
You have to believe in someone, believe in your self!
Stay in School

Chorus    Stay in School. Learn the things you’re meant to do!
Stay in School. Awaken the power that is inside you!

Don’t listen to those voices that tell you School is no good for you…
You have to believe in someone believe in yourself!
Stay in School!!!

Repeat Verse and Chorus,
Instrumental Break,
Chorus and
Fade.

Norberto “Bert” Diaz has a blog

Welcome to my blog,

My purpose here is simple: to share what I know to be true. In my years as a music teacher and principal I have experienced, over and over again, the power  of music as a tool in  education.

To me, there is nothing more magical  than to watch a child react to music. As a teacher and principal I have always used music as a tool to build self-confidence and motivation. I have also found that music is a great tool for communicating across languages. Again and again I have seen kids strengthen their language skills with the help of music and song.

Now I want to share my thoughts – and songs in this blog.

I invite kids and teachers alike to listen to my songs and use them if they like. I invite other educators and kids who have created music to send it to us so that we can share  your sounds with others.

Enjoy
